Welcome to our classes for Summer 2022.  Fall classes will start appearing in August.  Classes are added on an on-going basis so visit this page often. To register or for any questions, call us at 306 652-6031. What you need to know regarding classes at The Sewing Machine Store:

 

  • Payment is required at registration; at that time you will receive the materials list.

  • Registration is available over the phone by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Machines are available for your use, if required.

  • Should a class not go because of insufficient interest, it will be cancelled one week prior to the start date with a full refund coming to you. We recommend not purchasing your materials until you know the class will run.

  • Should you need to withdraw from the class and advise us at least one week prior to the start date of that class, a full refund is given. If you give less than 7 days notice, your tuition is forfeited unless we can find a replacement to fill your spot.

Do you want to dip into the world of sewing and want support to begin the journey?  This class is perfect for the beginner sewist or those who want to refresh their basic sewing skills.  Learn how to access, download, and use online PDF patterns.  Discover what sewing tools are a 'must' and which ones you might invest in later.  Create a versatile, reversible tote bag with pockets or a practical butcher style apron.  The patterns are designed by a Canadian company, Helen's Closet, and they're free.  Join Dora and become part of the vibrant sewing community.

Do you hate wires?  Ingrid is your answer.  She is a non-wired bra with comfort, support, fine fit, and good looks.  Colour and fabric possibilities are endless.  Enjoy personalized attention in this small class.  Finish one bra in this two and a half day class.  Prerequisite is the basic bra class Boob Camp.

You've started sewing and you love it!  Take the next step.  Choose a top or shirt pattern that's suitable for woven fabric.  We can give you some help with that.  Learn about fit, pattern layout, cutting, seams and seam finishes, collars or facings, buttonholes and hems.  If you can make a shirt, you can make almost anything.  The class is geared to you so it is suitable for beginners and beyond.

Do you know a child who wants to learn to sew?  This project is perfect for them.  Design a monster.  Choose different body shapes, facial features, arms, legs, and maybe even hair or antenna.  No two will be the same.  Learn sewing machine skills, basic applique, and hand sewing.  You can make more than one if time permits.  For ages 9 - 12.

Serger 101

After this six hour class, you will have made friends with your serger.  Learn how a serger works by focusing on basic theory which includes understanding tensions and choosing correct stitches.  Practice basic techniques - rolled hem, using differential feed, turning corners, flatlock, attaching elastic, and using heavy thread.  To ingrain your new skills, you'll make a cover for your machine.  Come for tons of tips with lots of laughs thrown in.

Learn bra making and never have to shop for another bra, ever.  Fittings are individual and private.  Noreen will guide you through the construction of a beautiful bra just right for you.  The pattern developed for you is used to customize other bra patterns.  Class size is small so you get personal attention allowing you to complete your bra in this two and a half day class.  This class offers more sewing hours than the industry standard.  This is the prerequisite for Noreen's other bra classes.

Shelley is a four piece bra which includes a "power bar" to keep your headlights aligned.  Use your basic bra pattern from Boob Camp to customize your Shelley pattern.  Your bra making skills and repertoire of techniques will expand as you make another beautiful bra that fits perfectly.

The basic bra class, Boob Camp, is a prerequisite.

Walking Foot Quilting

Monday, November 21 & 28 and December 5      6 - 9 pm

Instructor: Kathy

Be quilting creative with your walking foot.  If you're not comfortable with ruler work, this is an option for you.  The secret is how you mark your quilt top before you begin to quilt and we will explore all aspects of this.  Practice straight line and gentle curve quilting.  Experience this fun and easy way to finish your project and get great results.  This class will give you the confidence to go beyond the basics.

We will test to ensure that your machine is set properly for your walking foot.
