Welcome to our classes for Winter/Spring 2022.  Classes are added on an on-going basis so visit this page often. To register or for any questions, call us at 306 652-6031. What you need to know regarding classes at The Sewing Machine Store:

 

  • Payment is required at registration; at that time you will receive the materials list.

  • Registration is available over the phone by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Machines are available for your use, if required.

  • Should a class not go because of insufficient interest, it will be cancelled one week prior to the start date with a full refund coming to you. We recommend not purchasing your materials until you know the class will run.

  • Should you need to withdraw from the class and advise us at least one week prior to the start date of that class, a full refund is given. If you give less than 7 days notice, your tuition is forfeited unless we can find a replacement to fill your spot.

Do you want to dip into the world of sewing and want support to begin the journey?  This class is perfect for the beginner sewist or those who want to refresh their basic sewing skills.  Learn how to access, download, and use online PDF patterns.  Discover what sewing tools are a 'must' and which ones you might invest in later.  Create a versatile, reversible tote bag with pockets or a practical butcher style apron.  The patterns are designed by a Canadian company, Helen's Closet, and they're free.  Join Dora and become part of the vibrant sewing community.

You heard about all the wonderful things that your serger can do in Marg Sweete's Serger Techniques Demystified.  This is a continuation as Kathy gives you a chance to try these techniques.   Seams, gathering, hemming, corners, and curves will be discussed.  Also decorative serging including lettuce edge, ladder stitch and more.  The demo includes serger quilting too.  Once you've seen it, you'll want to do it!  There will be some hands on work so have your serger close by.

The session will be recorded so you can watch it as many times as you wish.

Applique can be used in any sewing project - home dec, clothing, fashion accessories, funky repairs.  In this two session class you will complete a placemat using a variety of techniques including straight, curves, raw edge, points, satin vs decorative stitch.  Learn how easy it is to do it right and your finished projects will be awesome.  We will touch on binding and a bit of quilting in this project.  This is one fun class!  Your placemat will be different than the picture.

Do you know a child who wants to learn to sew?  This project is perfect for them.  Design a monster.  Choose different body shapes, facial features, arms, legs, and maybe even hair or antenna.  No two will be the same.  Learn sewing machine skills, basic applique, and hand sewing.  You can make more than one if time permits.  For ages 9 - 12.

Instructor: Kathy

After this six hour class, you will have made friends with your serger.  Learn how a serger works by focusing on basic theory which includes understanding tensions and choosing correct stitches.  Practice basic techniques - rolled hem, using differential feed, turning corners, flatlock, attaching elastic, and using heavy thread.  To ingrain your new skills, you'll make a cover for your machine.  Come for tons of tips with lots of laughs thrown in.

Walking Foot Quilting

Be quilting creative with your walking foot.  If you're not comfortable with ruler work, this is an option for you.  The secret is how you mark your quilt top before you begin and we will explore all aspects of this.  Practice straight line and gentle curve quilting as you make a one of a kind table topper.  Experience this fun and easy way to finish your project and get great results.  This class will give you the confidence to go beyond the basics.

We'll test to ensure that your walking foot is set properly for your machine.
